Before Our Trip to Texas Began

This post and the next one on the blog will differ slightly due to our almost 2 week absence from here while on a road trip/vacation to Texas and back. The following photos are from the days just before we left home. Enjoy!

We did a practice batch of heart tarts, in preparation for their class Valentine's Day party:

This shows why I like to do test runs, as this one ended in failure so I've scrapped that idea in preference for mini fruit pies (which will be attempted prior to the party as well):

We had 2 ridiculously warm for January in Illinois days, and stayed outside as much as possible:

Charlotte gathered enough sticks that she could build a campfire, according to her:
Even Grandpa Jay had a stick at one point:
Grandma Peggy & Ruby led the way home after our twice as long as usual walk:

The next day (which was even warmer, getting into the mid 50s), they marched around with a long stick:

Charlotte then pretended the stick was a shovel and proceeded to dig happily for about 45 minutes:

Ruby was ecstatic to find a lone dandelion in the neighboring yard:

She smiled at it and carried it around for the majority of time we were outside that day:

2 days before we were set to leave for Texas, a snowstorm hit and we decided to go out & play during the tail end of it:

Grandpa Jay chased them to get them running through the snow (roughly 6" of snow fell):

Charlotte made a snow angel:

Ruby prefers to eat snow (we have warned her about ingesting any snow that is not white):

After a brief snow fight with Grandpa Jay:
